Education in India is known worldwide for its ancient history in the field of science and mathematics. From the invention of zero to some striking findings in the early Vedic periods to creating a space for them in the world of Silicon Valley, Indians have always managed to do the rounds in the conventions of geniuses and academic leaders. But sadly, this leadership failed to transcend the annals of industry, manufacturing and international trade because the trend declined over the past few decades.
At STEM Academy, we constantly think out of the box and strive to structure environments conducive to making learning a fun experience. We envision India producing mathematical and science beacons like Kalpana Chawla, Sunita Williams, Hargobind Khurana, Srinivasa Ramanujan, Varahamihira, C. V. India needs more emphasis on STEM literacy.
Rather than resting and priding on past laurels, India must immediately start ‘investing in the future’. Fundamental research and R&D in science, math, technology, energy and other fields needs to be emphasized. The scientific community has to be populated. It is imperative to start motivating young students to pursue careers in Science, Math and Technology with research orientation. Experiential learning with hands-on DIY practical equipment at the school level can get generate talent amongst students aspiring to become researchers. Schools across India have the responsibility to think ahead –unconventionally- and must initiate authentic STEM education to inculcate and inseminate genuine interest for learning Science and Math. Teachers and parents will have to play a vital complimentary role in emboldening acceptance of this new pedagogy.
In a globally competitive economy, employers of all shapes and sizes are increasingly seeking workers skilled in science, technology, engineering, and math. Investing to ensure a pipeline of workers skilled in STEM competencies is a workforce issue, an economic-development issue, and a business imperative. And the best way to ensure return on these investments is to start fostering these skills in young children. We are not tool suppliers or game builders or even simply educators. We are catalysts to a positive change in education.

New India needs such revolutionary disruptive approach to education which prepares children to innovate at their employment or better yet their own entrepreneurial ventures. It is in tandem with Skilled India, Start-up India, Make in India. The big vision at STEM Academy is to see Indian kids become international leaders in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math redeeming India's glorious past bedecked with likes of Shakuntala Devi, Aryabhatta, Charak, Shakuntala Devi, Jagadish Chandra Bose, Homi J Bhabha and numerous other creative geniuses.
